What does a LinkedIn profile checker check?

Two things, and most tools only do the first. The first is completeness: is each section filled in, is there a custom URL and a banner, are your roles described. It is easy to max out while still having a profile nobody understands.

The second is effectiveness: does the profile say plainly what you do, for whom, and with what proof, in the order a reader meets it? That check has to be done from the outside, because you already know what you meant. LinkedCheck reads the public profile with no context, the way a recruiter or client does, and writes down what it concluded.

How to check a LinkedIn profile yourself

Seven questions to ask in a private browser window

Log out, open your public profile, and answer honestly. If any answer is no, start with that section.

    Could a stranger say what you do in one sentence after reading only the headline?

    If the answer needs the About section, the headline is not doing its job.

    Does the text above "see more" contain a fact only you could write?

    "Experienced leader passionate about..." fails this. A number or a named outcome passes.

    Does your current role title match the words in your headline?

    Recruiter filters search the role title separately. Two different titles split the match.

    Does each role have at least one bullet with a number in it?

    A bullet with a result is evidence. A bullet with a responsibility is a job description.

    Do the skills you lead with appear in your headline or About?

    If not, the profile is claiming one thing and tagging another.

    Is your Featured item titled, and would you click it?

    An untitled link is a common empty space on an otherwise complete profile.

What the checker reads, and what it cannot

Everything comes from the public version of your profile, read from the link you paste. That is a limit as well as a promise.

How do I check my LinkedIn profile without logging in?

Paste your public profile URL or handle into the checker. It reads the public version of your profile, the one anyone can see, and never asks for your LinkedIn password. You do not sign in to LinkedIn; you do create a free LinkedCheck account to receive the preview.

What is the difference between a profile checker and a profile score?

A score is one number for completeness. A checker reads the profile and reports what it communicates. Every LinkedCheck report gives you both, and keeps the two apart, because a complete profile and an effective one are different things.

What happens after the free check?

How often should I check my LinkedIn profile?

Does the checker see private sections or analytics?
